When The Internet Goes Down

Our Lives Are So Reliant To The Internet

Many of you may have experienced or heard about the internet and mobile outage yesterday from Rogers across Canada. I was affected by it for the internet, luckily my phone is through a different provider so I still had use of my mobile.

The Rogers services were down for the whole day. Businesses were affected who relied on Rogers internet as they could not accept debit or credit card purchases and signs were up everywhere with “Cash Only” written on them.

Banks were having issues even with people trying to use the bank ATMs to get cash out. Even emergency services saw some disruptions. People who used a Rogers provider phone either could not call through for 911 or if they were able to connect, the call would drop.

Hospitals using Rogers services, luckily had some backups in place and were able to switch phone lines to a backup service.

Coffee shops that were either on a different network or were still getting internet saw an increase in people coming to sit and connect to their wifi trying to get work done that they normally do at home.

People even sat outside of hotels connecting to their wifi, for the ones that had internet service through other providers.
